I’m watching President Obama’s announcement that the US has successfully killed Osama Bin Laden. You can, if you like, wade through the #osamabinladen stream (an apt noun), or watch your wall on Facebook, where you’ll find that people’s reactions are running from fear that things will get worse to vehement satisfaction at the death of a mass murderer.
What nobody’s pointed out yet is that Bin Laden is now a martyr. In addition, the US has demonstrated that it won’t tolerate its citizens’ deaths. (This is, admittedly, after a delay of nearly a decade.) These two factors together is a recipe for increased tension, to put it mildly.
This is Monday’s post, uploaded a bit early.
